Audio frequently broken on Longplay on carplay
under review
Steven Noble
I use a third party wireless adaptor for Car Play. And iPhone XS. After a phone call, audio on Longplay often becomes so glitchy it can't be listened to. Sometimes this can be fixed by jumping to a new album but usually it cannot. I've got a mental note to see if the Apple Music app is affected in the same way, if it makes any difference whether the call was incoming or outgoing, and whether it can be fixed by restarting the car without restarting the phone.
Sorry I see that I already accidentally posted this under feature requests, but I don't see any way to turn that feature request into a big report.

quality of Bluetooth music playback on Longplay on CarPlay after a phone call
Steven Noble
After making a phone call using CarPlay, the quality of Bluetooth music playback on Longplay on CarPlay sometimes drops so far that it becomes unusable. Other times it is not affected at all. I'm wondering if Longplay is just relying on iOS to switch from a 'voice' Bluetooth profile back to a 'music' profile, and if Longplay can take responsibility for ensuring this always happens.

Thanks for the detailed report. I will see if I can reproduce this.

I have more information. Incoming call -> Longplay -> broken audio. Incoming call -> Longplay -> Apple Music -> Longplay -> broken audio. Incoming call -> Longplay -> Google Maps with spoken directions -> Longplay -> working audio. I believe that when the call begins, Bluetooth drops to a lower quality to free up bandwidth to create a second channel for the mic. Then, one of these three things happens: (1) a bug in iOS or the third party wireless CarPlay adaptor fails to restore Bluetooth call quality at the end of the call, or (2) a bug in a iOS service used by Longplay and Apple Music alike fails to restore Bluetooth quality when music resumes, or (3) a bug in Longplay fails to restore Bluetooth quality, and Apple Music does not realise that Longplay did not restore Bluetooth quality and so does nothing.

Also now confirmed. Outgoing call -> Longplay -> broken audio. Outgoing call -> Longplay -> Apple Music -> Longplay -> broken audio. Outgoing call -> Longplay -> Google Maps with spoken directions -> Longplay -> working audio.
